An easy, hands-on chocolate egg-making project where kids “paint” melted chocolate into molds, then pop out shiny eggs they can decorate and fill.
Step 1: Set up the “chocolate egg station”
Place clean, completely dry plastic egg molds (or silicone egg molds) on a tray that fits in your fridge/freezer. Put a sheet of baking paper underneath for easy cleanup. Have small spoons and 1–2 clean paintbrushes (optional) ready.
Step 2: Melt chocolate gently
Put chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring well each time, until mostly melted. Keep stirring until smooth (the residual heat finishes it).
Step 3: “Paint” the first coat
Spoon a little melted chocolate into each egg cavity (about 1–2 tsp, depending on mold size). Use the back of a spoon or a brush to spread it up the sides to the rim.
Step 4: Chill to set
Refrigerate 10–15 minutes (or freeze 5–7 minutes) until the chocolate looks matte and firm to the touch.
Step 5: Add a second coat (for sturdy eggs)
Repeat with another layer of chocolate, focusing on the rim and any thin patches. Chill again 10–15 minutes (or freeze 5–7 minutes).
Step 6: Unmold carefully
Turn the mold over and gently pop out the chocolate halves. Handle with cool, dry hands (warm hands can smudge/melt).
Step 7: Fill and seal (make whole eggs)
Fill one half with your chosen goodies (don’t overfill—leave a little space at the rim).
Step 8: Decorate (optional but fun)
Drizzle a little leftover melted chocolate over the eggs with a spoon. Add sprinkles while the drizzle is wet. Chill 5–10 minutes to set.
