Golden, crunchy, twisty bread coils wrapped around gooey melted cheese with a punchy Dijon hit in every bite.
Step 1: Make the cheese “rope”
Lay the 2 bread slices side by side. Place the cheese slices in a strip down the middle, slightly overlapping. Roll the bread and cheese up together from one long side to the other to form a tight log (like a mini bread-and-cheese roulade). Press the seam gently to help it stick.
Step 2: Twist
Hold one end of the log in each hand and twist 3–4 turns, like wringing a towel. Don’t overdo it—stop when it feels snug but not tearing. Tuck the ends slightly under so the cheese is less likely to escape.
Step 3: Butter & season
Spread softened butter all over the outside of the twisted sandwich (every ridge = more crunch). Add a little black pepper if you like.
Step 4: Toast low and slow
Heat a non-stick pan over **medium-low**. Place the twist seam-side down. Cook **3–4 minutes** until deep golden, then turn carefully and toast the other side **3–4 minutes**. Rotate onto the “edges” for **30–60 seconds** each to crisp the spirals and seal any weak spots.
Step 5: Dijon finish
Move to a board and rest **1 minute** (helps the cheese set slightly so it doesn’t all run out). Slice on a diagonal. Serve with **Dijon for dipping** or spread a thin layer inside the cut surfaces for maximum tang.
